Hardware failure, theft, accidental deletion and ransomware can all interrupt operations. A useful backup plan keeps critical data in more than one location and includes a realistic restore process.
Start with critical data
Identify accounting files, customer records, operational documents and any device that stores business-critical information.
Think beyond external drives
External drives can help, but they are often kept in the same building as the computer. Offsite backups reduce the risk of losing the original and the backup at the same time.
Test recovery
A backup is only complete when you know how it will be restored.
